On September the 25th, we've received a concerning message from the head, NARC, of this site. He informed us to discontinue AsianUsenet site.
Too much time or too busy with other things, so AU is FOR SALE.
He's pull out the plug for almost a day, but thanks to his new girlfriend AU is still alive.

We as users, don't want AU to disappear. Right?

1) What can we as AU-users do to keep AsianUsenet alive?
(place here your suggestions or comments in this thread)

2) Or if you don't know, just place a thank you note to thank NARC, head of this site for spending all his freetime and efforts in AU in the past.

Thanks NARC for the hard work. I have belong to this site since its start and we all get busy and do are best to contribute, so I am glad to have been able to be apart of this site. Keep up the great work and if you decide it is to much, it was fun while it lasted.

I understand how Narc feels right now. Because really lets think about it for a second.

The cost of maintaining the site now surely outweigh the benefits of keeping this site alive. I think Narc doesn't make much from this site but hes loosing money. Why?

1. There isnt enough traffic coming in because its primarily targeted for the "usenet" community and that isnt very large, and the out that community this site will mostly attract asian hard core movie fans, like you and me.

2. No one will donate. Why do I say this? Because most of us, actually all of us are already paying around 25 dollars a month for usenet service. (My ISP service is 18 dollars for a month for 6 megs) So most are not willing to chip in another 20 dollars here or there. And theres already a small number of people on this site anyways. (we only have around 10k accounts)

3. There are already usenet index service that are being provided, like www.newzbin.com or www.binsearch.info
We can understand that Narc has a tough decision to make, and Im sure that we really appreciate everything that he has done for us to keep this site alive.

But theres really nothing left he can do at this point. Its now UP TO US to KEEP this site ALIVE! How?

By being more active in the forums. To be honest the forums here are dead. No one really does anything on here anymore. Everyone just goes on here to check for NZB files then just leaves. (myself included ) We should be more of a community not only to share movies and music but also talk about them. Talk about the new ones thats coming out or new artist albums. This way more people are more likely to share more stuff any become better friends.

But the main problem is still money. I know that not everyone can donate, but we can overcome this by asking Narc to sign up for the Google adsense program and each one of us should be CLICKING on the ads!
So its up us to make this a better place and to keep this site alive.

So I hope everyone can all pitch in and help.

Yes, please keep this site alive. I have 10mbit internet and I love the fact that I can get a movie in less than 10 minutes and a dvd within an hour on usenet, very easily maxing my connection, where as torrents are... slow. Torrents also can't beat a 200+ day retention... :D
